SUMMARY:Public Lecture: Stephen Laubach - Redefining Conservation on the Leopold Memorial Reserve
DESCRIPTION: \nJoin the Aldo Leopold Nature Center for Redefining Conservation on the Leopold Memorial Reserve: A New Era of Cooperative Land Stewardship\, a free public lecture by author Stephen Laubach. \nThe land that is now the Leopold Memorial Reserve in Baraboo\, Wisconsin\, and the site of Leopold’s famous “shack\,” provided the families of Aldo Leopold and Thomas Coleman an ideal setting for pioneering experiments in ecological restoration and cooperative conservation. Author Stephen Laubach will examine the evolution of the Reserve idea and how it demonstrates an innovative effort in private conservation connected to the land trust movement and community conservation. \n \nStephen Laubach works for the UW Arboretum Earth Partnership program and is a writing consultant on cooperative conservation projects. He promotes ecological restoration and environmental stewardship in schools and communities. Laubach’s book\, Living a Land Ethic\, is available for sale\, and Steve will remain after the talk to answer questions and sign copies. \nThis presentation\, Tuesday\, May 3\, 6:00-7:00 PM\, is free and open to the public. Following the lecture\, participants are invited to enjoy Aldo Leopold Nature Center’s exhibits\, including the Nina Leopold Bradley Family Phenology Center\, Leopold footage in our new Immersion Theater\, and a glimpse at our replica Leopold shack. Attendees are also invited to hike around our grounds\, open until dusk. Exhibit admission and trail access is free for lecture attendees\, though donations are appreciated! \nPre-registration for the lecture and tour is not required\, but it’s recommended to RSVP below as space is limited. \n \n  \n
