SUMMARY:Wild About Weather Month in the Exhibits
DESCRIPTION:From storms to sunshine\, heat waves to natural disasters\, weather rules our world. Throughout October\, we’ll be wild about weather with ongoing programs\, special guests\, and activities centered on weather phenomena and climate in Wisconsin and around the globe. Hear from meteorology experts\, take your own weather measurements\, give your own weather forecast\, and immerse yourself in our Storms360 Theater. Plus\, join us for a special Nature’s Fury Innovation Expo on Saturday\, October 26 – featuring students across Wisconsin showcasing their own inventions and solutions for responding to and preventing natural disasters. Weather you like it or not\, our exhibits this month will blow you away! \n Special Programs: \nEyewitness WEATHER – Orientation Theater – Saturday and Sunday\nWhy is the weather forecast so often wrong? What’s most deadly – lightning\, wind\, or hail? WEATHER takes you on a whirlwind tour of Earth’s turbulent atmosphere and reveals the forces that make the day fair or foul. From hurricane to heat wave\, weather is the most closely watched wild card in nature – yet it can still baffle us every day. \nStorms360: Weathering the Storm – Immersion Theater – Saturday and Sunday\nGo inside simulated weather and climate systems and learn how their changes impact the world in this high-definition fly-through immersion experience. \nFORECAST: Tropical Cyclone – Science on a Sphere – Saturday and Sunday\nForecast: Tropical Cyclone takes sphere-watchers on a journey through time and technology\, beginning with early storm observations from Caribbean shores and the decks of schooners through the modern age of computer modeling. \nExpert Presentations – Science on a Sphere \nJoin our meteorology experts as they breeze through some awesome global weather and climate visualizations on our giant projection sphere! \nWeather Report – Kids’ Climate Cast – Saturday and Sunday\nLearn about the science behind some weather phenomena and give your own on-screen weather report! \nWeather Journals and Tools – Lobby – Saturday and Sunday\nJoin expert meteorology guests and participate in some indoor and outdoor fun learning about forecasting\, weather observing\, and meteorology tools – and try them out for yourself! \nObserving the Atmosphere Weather Walk\nObservations of weather conditions have been conducted and recorded in North America even before the United States became a nation! Today\, these observations are essential to meteorologists in their ability to predict and assess the state of the weather. On this guided outdoor walk\, you’ll learn how to accurately describe the current state of the atmosphere\, such as its temperature\, wind speed\, cloud cover\, and precipitation. \nPlus special demonstrations and hands-on activities coordinated by meteorology students from the University of Wisconsin! \nSPECIAL EVENT! Nature’s Fury Showcase – Saturday\, October 26\, 10am-2pm\nJoin the Wisconsin First Lego League as these youth showcase and present their own inventions and solutions for responding to and preventing natural disasters. \nhttp://www.wi-first.org/natures-fury-expo/ \n
