SUMMARY:Family Public Program: Fall Family Campout!
DESCRIPTION:Back by popular demand\, bring the whole family for an overnight campout at our Black Earth Campus filled with nature activities and stargazing around the campfire on a fall night. Bring something to cook over the campfire for dinner (or heat up in the kitchen on site).  ALNC will provide a campfire snack and pancake breakfast.  Bring your own sleeping bag\, pillow and tent (if you have one). 4 person tents are available for rent for $10 each. Indoor shared bunk bed space is available in the Leopold Lodge if preferred.\nPlease note: This event is held at our Black Earth campus. See below for exact location details. \nAdd on our Family Geocaching Adventure from 2-4pm in the afternoon to extend your family adventure! \nStart time: 5pm\, Saturday\, October 1st\nEnd time: 10am\, Sunday\, October 2nd \nCost: $10/person for Members; $16/person for Non-Members\nAttendees age 3 and younger are free. \nPre-registration required. Event may be canceled if a minimum number of attendees is not obtained. ALNC will contact you and refund the registration fee if the event is canceled. \n \n  \n

DESCRIPTION:From storms to sunshine\, heat waves to natural disasters\, weather rules our world — and weather satellites help us observe and monitor what’s happening at any moment across Earth’s atmosphere\, detecting and observing environmental phenomena that directly affect public safety\, health\, and property. Throughout October\, we’ll be wild about weather and serious about satellites with ongoing programs and activities centered on weather and climate monitoring in Wisconsin and around the globe.  \nJoin ALNC and the University of Wisconsin’s Cooperative Institute of Meteorological and Satellite Studies (CIMSS) to celebrate this fall’s launch of the GOES-R satellite and exciting new data coming in 2017. Weather you like it or not\, our exhibits this month will blow you away!  \n\nHelp us countdown to the launch of the GOES-R satellite\, currently scheduled for November 4\, 2016 – and exciting new data coming in 2017!\nGive a weather report in the Kids’ Climate Cast meteorology TV studio\nCheck out the “Eyes on the Earth” interactive kiosk in the Immersion Theater to explore how NASA satellites monitor our planet’s vital signs.\nStep inside a storm cloud and learn about the difference between weather and climate in the “Weathering the Storm” immersive experience.\nLearn about the hundreds of different components of the Earth-system constantly being observed and visualized by satellites in space\, in the Science on a Sphere feature\, “GLOBE: Students of the Earth.” \nPlus\, hands-on activities\, weather tools\, and more!\nSPECIAL EVENT! ALNC is excited to participate in the Wisconsin Science Festival – October 20-23 – visit during these dates to be entered in a special drawing to win science gear and prizes from ALNC and our partners! \n\n \n
