SUMMARY:July 2017: World of Water
DESCRIPTION: \nWater is life! This month\, we are highlighting the wonders of water — how it travels through Earth’s systems and how our local and global watersheds are impacted by weather\, climate\, and our daily usage. \nVisit during our public hours to play in our wetland nature nook\, enjoy drop-in self-guided activities\, explore our pond\, view water conservation features throughout our facility and grounds\, discover the wonders of the water cycle in our exhibits and theaters\, and learn tips about how you can conserve and enjoy this precious resource. \nJuly’s special features and activities (free or included in admission): \n\nWater Falls on Science on a Sphere: Escaping from the ocean\, then surfing on clouds until taking that fateful fall back to Earth\, water is on a journey. NASA’s new short film “Water Falls” takes you along for the ride as scientists follow water around the globe.\nTravel Through the Water Cycle in the Immersion Theater: If water had eyes\, what would it see? This animation is shown from the first person viewpoint of a water droplet\, going through the water cycle. Be jealous.\n“Water Conservation Scavenger Hunt” and “Green Building” Touchscreen Interactive: Explore the grounds and facility of the Aldo Leopold Nature Center to see what we are doing to conserve water and protect our watershed. See real-life examples and get ideas for what you can do at home.\n“Under the Pond” Coloring Activity: Explore our outdoor wetland\, indoor wetland nature nook\, or pond life phenology guides to learn what kinds of critters live on our grounds and local wetlands – then draw them on our coloring sheets!\nWater in the Anthropocene in the Exhibit Hall: Evidence is growing that our global footprint is now so significant we have driven Earth into a new geological epoch — the Anthropocene. Human activities such as damming and agriculture are changing the global water cycle in significant ways. This data visualization charts the global impact of humans on the water cycle.\nAnd\, be sure to check out our Family Trailside Backpacks\, full of fun tools and materials for exploring our pond and wetland!\n\nThe Aldo Leopold Nature Center would like to thank ATC and DuPont for supporting our monthly exhibit themes. Don’t forget — themes change monthly\, so there is always something new to discover! \n
