Examine rocks\, minerals & fossils\, study our landscape\, and explore awesome geological features of our planet. \nVisit during our public hours to engage with hands-on exploration stations\, experience interactive theaters\, explore our grounds\, enjoy drop-in self-guided activities\, and discover the world beneath our feet. \nAugust’s special features and activities (free or included in admission): \n\nNina Leopold Bradley Family Phenology Center: Geology Rocks Classification Station\nUse tools and “wild words” to examine\, measure\, describe and classify rocks\, minerals\, and fossils.\nScience on a Sphere: Geology Rocks Playlist\nLearn about the movements of Earth’s crust\, view real-time earthquakes across the globe\, and much more with dynamic Science on a Sphere animations and visuals.\nImmersion Theater: Dig Under the Soil\nExperience the soil\, insects\, microbes\, tree roots\, and the living\, breathing world beneath your feet.\nKids’ Climate Cast: Live from Earth’s Crust!\nGive a report about volcanoes\, earthquakes\, and other exciting activity around Earth’s crust.\nExhibit Touchscreens: Extinction\nOnly a few hundred years ago\, extinction made no sense to anyone. The story of “Extinction” explores advanced geology and touches on why we humans will one day\, too\, be extinct!\nPlus\, ask at the front desk for Geology Scavenger Hunts\, Family Trailside Backpacks\, and more!\n\nWe would like to thank ATC and DuPont for supporting our monthly exhibit themes. SUMMARY:Land Steward Work Day
DESCRIPTION:Interested in helping restore and maintain ALNC’s prairie\, marsh and woodlands? Join us one Saturday of every month to help control invasives\, seed with native plants\, get dirty and have some fun! Volunteer work days will focus mainly on land management projects and invasive species removal. Work days may be cancelled due to inclement weather or planned activities may be modified. \nGroups are encouraged to contact us and coordinate with us to set a specific work date and schedule. Adults and youth welcome. \nJoin us at ALNC Monona for one of these upcoming volunteer work days! There is no need to sign-up or RSVP.  Just show up!  ALNC staff will greet you upon arrival.  \nFor inquiries about land steward volunteer workdays\, or if you belong to an organization or group and prefer to schedule a date to volunteer\, specific arrangements may be made for a group workday.
