SUMMARY:Land Steward Work Day
DESCRIPTION:Interested in helping restore and maintain ALNC’s prairie\, pond\, and woodlands?\nJoin us the second Saturday of the month\, April through October\, to help control invasive species\, seed with native plants\, get dirty\, and have some fun! Volunteer work days will focus mainly on land management and other projects as needed. Work days may be cancelled or planned activities modified due to inclement weather. \n \nPre-registration is not required but strongly encouraged. \n  \n\nThis month’s projects will likely include… \n\nSpreading mulch\nSpreading grass seed\nHauling brush to the burn pile\n\n  \nRegister Here\n \n \nExamples of Land Steward Work Day projects include: \n\nCutting honeysuckle and other unwanted brush\nMulching trails\nPulling garlic mustard and other invasive species\nTransplanting wildflowers\nCollecting and labeling seeds\nPicking up litter\n\nVolunteers should meet at 10am outside the West Entry doors\, near the Children’s shack\, for an orientation. Work days typically take place rain or shine\, although they may be modified or cancelled depending on the project and conditions. Basic tools and supplies will be provided. Please bring water bottles and wear work clothes appropriate for the weather. Access to facilities for restrooms and water refills will be available. \nThese work projects involve physical tasks geared towards older kids and adults. Younger children are welcome to attend/observe at the discretion of their guardian. SUMMARY:Adult Summer Camp
DESCRIPTION:Reserve your tickets now for ‘Camp Aldo’\, the fundraising event of the summer!\nOnline ticket sales have ended. Campers can register as walk-ins at the door. \n  \nRegister for Adult Summer Camp Here \n  \n\nFeaturing summer camp activities and locally-brewed beverages\, ‘Camp Aldo’ is an exciting day of adventure\, fun\, and games in support of children’s outdoor education programs at the Aldo Leopold Nature Center. For the price of admission\, attendees will receive a souvenir cup to fill with the beer and beverages (alcoholic and not) of their choice as they enjoy a camp experience designed for them. Add-on this year’s t-shirt or sign-up for the Ultimate Relay…This is THE event of the summer that will have you reminiscing about your own camp days. \nThe minimum suggested donation is $60. Tickets include reusable event cup and unlimited beverages (alcoholic and n/a beer as well as other non-alcoholic options)\, but not food from the food carts. \nCampers must be 21 years of age by the event date to register for Adult Summer Camp. The rain date is Sunday\, July 13th. \n  \n\n  \nGames\, songs\, crafts\, competition\, and adventure await at this unique event that will have you feeling nostalgic for summer camp!\nBring your reusable water bottle or buy one at the event! Madison Water Utility will be onsite with their bubbler\, helping us limit plastic waste at Camp Aldo. \n  \nWhen you Arrive:\nMeet at Ahuska Park to ride the Camp Bus OR park along Femrite Drive to hike in. Stop at the Welcome Table to check-in and receive your camp packet\, including your reusable\, insulated cup. \n  \nSchedule of Activities:\nMany activities will be available throughout the event\, while others will only be offered for a limited time. The fun kicks off at 2 PM and continues with a packed schedule:  \n2 PM: Meet at Ahuska Park to bus over to the grounds (buses will be running to and from Ahuska throughout the entire event)\n2:30-3 PM: Dig through the Sand for prizes or play Rubber Chicken Basket Catch thanks to our friends at Keva Sports Center.\n3:15-3:45 PM: Enjoy Water Play or compete in the Air Pressure Rocket Competition.\n4-4:30 PM: Discover aquatic invertebrates on a Pond Dip or test your searching skills with a Nature Scavenger Hunt.\n5 PM: If you registered for the Ultimate Relay\, it’s time for a full grounds\, nature center challenge.\n6 PM: Wind down with a cozy campfire. \n  \nCamp activities include: \n\nDig for Prizes: What goodies can you find hidden in the sand?\nWater Play: On a hot July day\, who doesn’t like to get wet?\nAir Pressure Rockets: Will you build the rocket that will launch the furthest? Or the highest?\nTie-Dye Fun: Bring an item or we’ll provide a bandana for you to tie dye your own.\nNature Scavenger Hunt: Search high and low for the items on the list. First team to complete wins.\nFort Building: Practice your engineering skills and take your imagination to new heights.\nPond Dip: At the pond\, discover which invertebrates live in the water.\nFriendship Bracelets: Make your very own bracelets to take home as a keepsake or share with friends.\nNature Mandala: Using items found in nature\, create ephemeral art in community.\nWrite Home: Write a postcard to your kids/family about all the fun you are having at camp.\nChalk Art: Take a break and create something pretty.
