The Wonder Bugs weaved new threads of knowledge, while learning about spiders!![]()

Ms. Suzy handed little toy spiders to each Wonder Bug and talked about their physical features. The group began by counting the number of legs and then the main body segments. Ms. Suzy explained that spiders are not insects because they have eight legs and two main body segments: the head and the abdomen. Insects, on the other hand, have six legs and three main body segments: the head, thorax, and abdomen. Spiders are therefore not insects; they are ‘arachnids’.![]()

After reading a book about spiders, the group went on a hike to search for invertebrates. The children enjoyed playing on the climbing structure in the Maple Field. They also rolled many logs in Pine Hollow, where they discovered spiders, rolly pollies, and millipedes. In the prairie, they observed cup plants, which were filled with water and attracted many black fireflies. By the pond, there were plenty of opportunities to jump in puddles!![]()
