Candelight Snowshoe Hike
January 18, 2014 @ 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm
FREEEnjoy the soft glow of candles as you meander through the trails of Edna Taylor Conservation Park, Monona’s Woodland Park and Aldo Leopold Nature Center. Join us for this free family event and get out and get active! Over 200 candles and luminaries will light the way on a 1 mile trail. Participants can start at Edna Taylor parking lot, Aldo Leopold Nature Center, or in Woodland Park. It is an out and back route.
Parking will be available at ALNC and at Meriter Monona Clinic at Broadway and Stoughton Roads, with a Monona Transit shuttle to transport folks to and from the Meriter lot starting at 4:45 pm and running every 15 minutes.
After snowshoeing, warm up by a roaring fire with a cup of hot chocolate or check out the ALNC’s Climate Education Center and Nature Nook exhibits. This is a FREE event! Bring your own snowshoes, or adult and child snowshoes will be available for use (photo ID required as deposit for snowshoe rental) on a first come, first served basis and as supplies last.
ALNC’s Climate Education Center will have extended hours until 8pm this evening — tickets to these indoor exhibits are free for ALNC members or $4/adult, $3/child for non-members. The ALNC Gift Shop will be open, featuring fun nature-themed toys, books, and craft items, and plenty of cozy mittens and scarves!
Participants are encouraged to bring their own snowshoes, but there will be a limited number of snowshoes available to use. Snowshoes are made available by REI, Monona Parks, Madison Parks, and Aldo Leopold Nature Center.
Please, no pets, skiing or sleds allowed.
No Pre-registration needed – please join us for this fun-filled evening!
