Last week, the Nature Preschoolers loved learning about seeds! ![]()

The children enjoyed hands-on activities, including dissecting fruits to discover their seeds and conducting a seed investigation with a sink or float experiment. They also learned how seeds travel, while watching a puppet show!![]()

The Nature Preschoolers spent a lot of time outside observing and playing with seeds as well. They followed clues on a seed scavenger hunt that led them through the sumacs, the Maple Field, and the Kindergarten Woods. They also went on a seed sock hike by wearing socks on their hands to collect seeds in the prairie. In the playspace, they planted cold crops in the garden, including carrots, kale, lettuce, and snap peas!![]()

The Nature Preschool Educators also included a kindness lesson about “growing seeds of kindness” by reading the book, ‘If You Plant a Seed’ by Kadir Nelson. In the story, a rabbit and a mouse plant seeds, which grow into vegetables. They enjoy the harvest until birds show up and ask for some of their food. At first, they didn’t want to share but the mouse eventually offered a tomato to the birds. The birds spread seeds as they fly and, in the end, the animals all enjoy the fruits of their cooperation. The book teaches children that a seed of kindness can grow into sweet fruit, while a seed of selfishness can grow into trouble.![]()
