Dutchman's breeches (Dicentra cucullaria) carry their name well with waxy flowers that look like tiny, white pants! Each flower consists of two large, white petals that form nectar spurs and small, yellow petals. ![]()

Prairie trillium (Trillium recurvatum) is very unique with its maroon flower and heavily-mottled leaves with light and dark green patches. Its small, distinctive, stalkless flowers, with long petals that curve inward at their tips, are attached directly to the central stem and leaves. ![]()

Virginia waterleaf (Hydrophyllum virginianum) has round clusters of light-blue and white bell-shaped flowers. This spring ephemeral takes its name from the fleeting “water spots” that can be found on its leaves in early spring. ![]()
