What’s that round bump on the goldenrod stem?![]()

It’s a goldenrod gall, formed when the goldenrod gall fly lays its eggs inside the stem as the plant grows. After the eggs hatch, the larvae feed within the stem, and their saliva triggers the plant to form this distinctive swelling.![]()

As the gall develops, it becomes a sheltered, food-rich home for the larvae without causing any serious harm to the plant. Nature is full of clever surprises! 🐛✨![]()
