Don’t know what to do with your plastic bags?
You might be tempted to put them in your recycling bin, but DON’T!
Using a plastic bag drop-off site ensures the bags will not become tangled in the sorting machinery at the recycling facility…and ALNC is now an official plastic bag drop-off site!! You can recycle your bags by placing them in the bin located in our lobby.
If reuse is your goal, there are many ways to do so with plastic bags. You can use them as garbage bags in your bathroom or to hold wet clothes after a day at the pool or in the rain. Some people are able to upcycle the bags by weaving them into rugs, cushions, nicer reusable bags or anything else they put their mind to.

We’re excited to welcome Diane Ballweg, a long-time friend of Aldo Leopold Nature Center, to share excerpts from her recent memoir, “Into the Wind, Above the Clouds: Love at First Flight.” Known as “the Pink Pilot”, Diane’s storytelling illustrates the life lessons she learned from flying, ascending readers into her world to explore the different layers of life, just like the diverse layers of earth’s atmosphere.

The Vacation Day students had a lot of fun during

The Vacation Day students had a lot of fun during spring break!
They enjoyed the return of spring with crafts, games, hikes, and plenty of time for free play. They explored the grounds, noticed signs of spring, and collected different natural materials for their nature journals, natural collages, and magic wands.
In the Maple Field, some children participated in a worm camouflage game. They split into two groups to find hidden worms made of yarn. One group had to find the rainbow worms, while the other had to find the brown worms. After 10 minutes, time was up and the group looking for the rainbow worms found many, while the group searching for brown worms found only a few of them. The game was a great way to illustrate how camouflage can help animals avoid predators!
