tree photoIn celebration of ALNC’s Forestry month, and to kick off the University of Wisconsin’s Forests and Humans Massive Open Online Course (MOOC), join us for a “Forests and Humans” public lecture from Dr. Catherine Woodward, including a tree identification walk through the ALNC grounds.

This public lecture on Wednesday, September 23 from 6:00-7:00 PM at the Aldo Leopold Nature Center, will introduce many of the topics to be explored in University of Wisconsin-Madison MOOC Forests & Humans: From the Midwest to Madagascar (led by Dr. Catherine Woodward from September 30-October 28), with emphasis on the forest resources and services that humans depend upon, and how we can maintain these into the future. Dr. Woodward will lead a walking tour of the Aldo Leopold Nature Center grounds, focusing on the natural history and importance of Wisconsin’s unique woodland communities.

Catherine Woodward is a faculty associate in the University of Wisconsin-Madison’s Institute for Biology Education, whose areas of interest and expertise include tropical ecology, habitat fragmentation, forest conservation. In addition to her work in forest conservation education and outreach in Wisconsin, Dr. Woodward also leads a semester-long study abroad course in Ecuador.
