ALNC UPDATES

Welcome back! Our facility is now open on weekdays from 9am to 4pm and on weekends from 10am to 2pm.

Because we are a childcare facility and still following public health protocols, we will retain a few restrictions, including requiring masking indoors and limited access to some public offerings and areas of our facility. We may also have to adjust our hours or access on short notice. We appreciate your patience as we work through changes in staffing and schedules, and work to find a healthy balance of access and safety for our community.

As always, our grounds and trails featuring self-guided tours are free and open daily from dawn until dusk.

Land Steward Work Day

June 11 @ 10:00 am - 11:30 am

Land Stewards & Restorationists — We Need YOU!

Interested in helping restore and maintain ALNC’s prairie, pond, and woodlands? Join us the second Saturday of the month, April through October, to help control invasive species, seed with native plants, get dirty, and have some fun! Volunteer work days will focus mainly on land management and other projects as needed. Work days may be cancelled or planned activities modified due to inclement weather.

Pre-registration is not required but strongly encouraged.

Here are just a few Land Steward projects:

  • Cut honeysuckle and other unwanted brush
  • Mulch trails
  • Pull garlic mustard and other invasive species
  • Transplant wildflowers
  • Collect and label seeds
  • Garden work as needed
  • Pick up litter/trash

Volunteers should meet at 10am outside the West Entry doors, near the Children’s shack, for an orientation. Work days typically take place rain or shine, although they may be modified or cancelled depending on the project and conditions. Basic tools and supplies will be provided. Please bring water bottles and wear work clothes appropriate for the weather. Limited access to facilities for restrooms and water refills will be available.

These work projects involve physical tasks geared towards older kids and adults. Younger children are welcome to attend/observe at the discretion of their guardian. Anyone under 16 must be accompanied by an adult.

Groups of 5 or more should inquire with alnc@aldoleopoldnaturecenter.org to ensure we are able to accommodate your group.

Please contact us at (608) 221-0404 or at alnc@aldoleopoldnaturecenter.org for more information.
