Compass plants can help you find your bearings!
This native perennial minimizes its sun exposure by orienting its leaves vertically to avoid the hot midday sun, while the flat surfaces of the leaves face east and west to take advantage of cooler morning and evening light for photosynthesis. Because of this, the leaf edges tend to point roughly north and south, which can help you identify the cardinal directions.
Head outside with a compass and see how closely the compass plant's leaves align!
