Author Talk: ‘Saving Tarboo Creek: One Family’s Quest to Heal the Land’

'Saving Tarboo Creek: One Family’s Quest to Heal the Land' tells the story of Scott Freeman and Susan Leopold Freeman’s work to restore and conserve a dilapidated salmon stream in the Olympic Peninsula. In doing so, they put into practice the land ethic set forth by Susan’s grandfather, Aldo Leopold. They began with 18 acres of badly degraded farm land, and with the help of family, friends, and local conservation groups they have now restored and conserved more than 200 acres. Scott’s writing artfully blends the family’s story with powerful universal lessons about how we can live more constructive, fulfilling, and natural lives by engaging with the land rather than exploiting it. It is a compelling personal narrative about one family’s journey. And, it is also a rough road map for how to act locally, while thinking globally.
