Welcome! Our facility is open on weekdays from 9am to 4pm and on weekends from 10am to 2pm.

Wearing a face mask indoors is optional. Because we are a childcare facility and follow public health protocols, we have limited access to some public offerings and areas of our facility. We appreciate your patience as we work to find a healthy balance of access and safety for our community.

As always, our grounds and trails featuring self-guided tours are free and open daily from dawn until dusk.

As we wrap up 2023, we would like to give a BIG thanks to our many friends like you!We are grateful for your support of our organization, making it possible to fulfill our mission to “engage and educate current and future generations, empowering them to respect, protect, and enjoy the natural world”. You are helping us meet our goals of promoting educational equity for all students, fostering a healthy lifestyle for children and their families, and nurturing respect for the environment.We recently finalized our Strategic Plan and are better equipped to meet the needs of our community and our staff as we move forward with a new five year plan in place. At the top of our strategic plan’s initiatives list, continuing to work towards our DEI (diversity, equity & inclusion) goals. To improve access, we offer reduced tuition, based on a sliding-scale, and additional tuition assistance for qualifying families in the OAKS (Outdoor Action Kids in STEAM) After-School program, and we launched a weighted-lottery enrollment for Summer Camps designed to increase representation. We also continue to subsidize our core community access programs such as school field trips, afterschool programs, and ‘Wonder Bugs On the Road’ through our partnership with MMSD’s Play & Learn program. Look for a full list of our DEI initiatives on our website, under “Community Ethics & Nature”. In many ways 2023 has been an extraordinary year! In addition to strategic planning, Betsy Parker, who brings a wealth of experience, both locally and state-wide, was promoted to Executive Director. ALNC was also awarded the title of “Climate Champion” by the Dane County Office of Energy and Climate Change (OECC) in recognition of our role as leaders in the field of climate change education.As a nonprofit, NONE of what we do would be possible without the support of friends like you.
