Bioneers Film Screening: Blue Mind
March 18, 2015 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm
Join the Aldo Leopold Nature Center and Sustain Dane on Wednesday, March 18, 6-8 PM for a free video keynote from Wallace “J” Nichols, esteemed marine biologist, on the healing impacts of water and its importance in our lives.
The video, “Blue Mind,” is an encore screening from the Bioneers Conference, held annually in San Rafael, CA. This event is part of the Aldo Leopold Nature Center’s ongoing public lecture series and is one of four encore screenings hosted by Sustain Dane in partnership with local nonprofits throughout the spring.
About the Keynote: The cognitive and emotional benefits of healthy oceans and waterways have been celebrated through art, song, romance, and poetry throughout human history. Marine biologist Dr. Wallace J. Nichols will explore our blue minds through the dual lenses of evolutionary biology and cognitive science, reminding us that we are water. “J” is a scientist, activist, community organizer and author who is a research associate at California Academy of Sciences and co-founder of Ocean Revolution.
This presentation, Wednesday, March 18, 6:00-8:00 PM, is free and open to the public.
Light refreshments provided courtesy of the Willy Street Co-op. The video keynote will begin at 6pm, followed by group discussion and a tour of ALNC’s Climate Science Education Center, with a special focus on the waters of our blue planet. Attendees will also get a sneak peek at the upgrades underway in ALNC’s Immersion Theater and learn about the Blue Marble campaign and content development in the works.
Admission is free for lecture attendees, though donations are always appreciated! Pre-registration for the event is not required, but it’s recommended to RSVP below as space is limited.
