Interactive Exhibits

The Aldo Leopold Nature Center features exhibits and programming on renewable energy, climate science and sustainability. Combined with our “high-touch” outdoor programs, our “high-tech” offerings use multimedia exhibits and interactive programming, including digital, visual, hands-on and immersive experiences for all ages. Exhibits are open 7 days a week, on a drop-in basis, from 9 am – 4 pm weekdays and 10 am – 2 pm on weekends.

Leopold Exhibit – Aldo Leopold as a Boy: Exploring the Mysteries of the Land

World-famous scientist, ecologist and author Aldo Leopold was once a kid — just like you! Explore Leopold’s childhood, his interests, and learn what he discovered about reading clues in the landscape. Then try your new found skills out on the Aldo Leopold Nature Center trails!

Leopold Family Interpretive Trail

Leopold Interpretive Trail – This award-winning trail leads visitors of all ages through examples of native Wisconsin habitats, with easy to understand explanations of various sites and questions that Aldo Leopold might have asked you, had he been standing next to you on the trail! Pick up the Trail Guide inside the building, or print one using the links below!

Digital Docent: Climate Change Impacts Walking Tour

Explore the trails behind the Aldo Leopold Nature Center to learn about the plants and animals around you. Scan digital QR codes along the way to find fun facts and identification information and learn how these species are being impacted by changes in Wisconsin’s climate.

Touch Tables

A great way to introduce young ones to the wonders of the natural world, this changing table top display features “touchable”; nature items like feathers, bones, rocks, furs and other recent finds.

Family Trailside Backpack Program

Enhance your exploration of nature with our Family Trailside Backpack Program. This self-guided, year round program is designed for families to learn together, at their leisure, as they explore the Aldo Leopold Nature Center trails. To help you on your adventure, we provide a backpack with an easy-to-understand Exploration Guide and a seasonal activity kit, which children of all ages will enjoy. Backpack themes change seasonally and include Spring is in the Air, Crawling Critters, Amazing Adaptations and Snug in the Snow.

Non-members: $5/family
$10 for Daycare and Scout groups (please call ahead for large groups)

Drop-in hours are Monday through Friday, typically 9am to 4pm and 10am-2pm on weekends. To ensure availability, please call in advance to reserve the backpacks.
